Mrs. Katrina Young served four terms on the Rockdale County Board of Education (RBOE) from 2007-2020. Katrina was unanimously voted to serve as Board Chair in January 2019. Mrs. Young represented the Board at the Conyers Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Governor, Economic Development Board, and the Big Six Leadership initiative. Mrs. Young served as President of the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) from 2018-2019; President Elect 2017-2018, and Vice President 2016-2017 term. Notable service at GSBA includes Strategic Planning, Executive Committee, Legal Defense Committee, New Board Member Mentor, Georgia Vision Project Steering Committee, Advocacy Institute, and GSBA delegate to the National School Board Association Federal Relations Network.
She is the former Director of Business and Industry and Continuing Education in Economic Development at Georgia Piedmont Technical College, a unit of Technical College System Georgia where she was responsible for continuing education programs and customized training for for DeKalb, Morgan, Newton and Rockdale Counties.
Mrs. Young is married to her husband for 38 years and the proud parents of two adult children and have two grandchildren and two fur grandbabies. She is a graduate of Georgia State University. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Dowell Institute of Theological Seminary. Mrs. Young is a published author. She is a noted speaker, presenter and expert panelist at the local, state and national levels. As a former Atlanta Falcon Cheerleader (AFC), she is active with the AFC Alumni organization performing and making appearances in Metro Atlanta. She also enjoys family time, the beach, traveling and her book club.
